Piracetam
Piracetam is a drug, sometimes taken as a dietary supplement, which is sold under a variety of brand names including Myocalm and Nootropil.
It belongs to the group of medicines known as GABA analogues. GABA analogues are designed to protect the cerebral cortex in the brain against a deficiency of oxygen.
The cerebral cortex is responsible for consciousness and for voluntary activity and plays a role in perception, memory, and mental ability.
Piracetam has been used to treat a variety of conditions including cortical myoclonus, alcoholism, vertigo, senile dementia, stroke, and behavioural disorders in children.
