Amino Acid

Amino acids are organic compounds that combine to form proteins, the basic building blocks for life.

There are various different kinds of amino acids including carnitine, carnosine, glutamate, glutamine, glutathione, phenylalanine, piracetim, taurine, tryptophan, tyrosine.

Amino acids that must be obtained from the diet are called "essential amino acids" while amino acids that the body can manufacture from other sources are called "non essential amino acids."

Amino acids play a central role both as building blocks of proteins and as intermediates in metabolism.
