Computer-Based Interventions

Computer-based interventions are a large and diverse group of interventions based around the use of computers.

It includes the use of instructional computer programmes, interactive virtual realities and online communities.

Computer-based interventions can be used for a wide range of tasks including

  • To teach specific skills not associated with autism, such as reading and writing
  • To teach specific, autism-related skills, such as how to recognize emotions
  • To motivate individuals with autism to speak (either to the computer or to another person), to read, or to show and share their achievements.
  • To enable individuals with autism spectrum disorders to talk to and/or support one another
