Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model

 The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model is a form of supported employment.

IPS was orignially developed to help people with mental health problems obtain competitve employment.

IPS is based around eight key principles

  • Every person who wants to work is eligible
  • Competitive jobs are the goal
  • IPS supported employment services are integrated with mental health
  • Personalised benefits counselling is provided
  • The job search starts soon after a person expresses interest in working
  • Employment specialists build relationships with employers
  • Individualised job supports are time-unlimited
  • Individual preferences are honoured

IPS was developed by the  Dartmouth IPS Supported Employment Center in the USA.
