Glossary Item Description
Biomedical

Biomedical is a very loose term that means different things to different people. In practice, most people use the term to refer to a group of interventions which are designed to stop, or at least reduce, the effect of biomedical problems (such as gastrointestinal abnormalities, immune dysfunctions, detoxification abnormalities, and/or nutritional deficiencies or imbalances).

Body Ecology Diet

The body ecology diet is a diet which was originally created to treat systemic fungal infections.

BOOST-A

BOOST-A is the acronym for The Better OutcOmes and Successful Transitions for Autism, an online transition planning programme which supports adolescents on the autism spectrum to prepare for leaving school.

Borage Oil

Borage oil is a herbal remedy which is sometimes taken as a dietary supplement.

Borax

Borax is a compound which occurs as a mineral in some alkaline salt deposits.

Borneol

Borneol is an organic compound, extracted from the Malaysian tree Dryobalanops aromatica, and used in some perfumes and esters.

Botanicals

Botanicals are plants or plant parts valued for their medicinal or therapeutic properties, flavour, and/or scent.

Brain Balance programme

The Brain Balance programme is an intervention which aims to correct the supposed imbalance in the connections and function between and within the hemispheres (sides) of some children's brains.

Brain Gym

Brain Gym is a system of physical exercises designed to help individuals to overcome learning and behavioural problems.

BrainChild

BrainChild is an intervention based on a collection of active movements and games designed to work on the immature brain.

Breast feeding, extended

Extended breast feeding is an intervention designed to build the relationship between mother and child.

British Sign Language

British Sign Language is a sign language used by the deaf community and others in the United Kingdom and some other countries.

Brushing Technique

The brushing technique applies rapid and firm pressure touch to the arms, hands, back, legs, and feet using a surgical brush.

BSL

BSL is an acronym for British Sign Language, a sign language used by the deaf community and others in the United Kingdom and some other countries.

Building Blocks

The Building Blocks programme is a form of early intensive behavioural intervention designed to help young children on the autism spectrum.

Building Confidence

Building Confidence is a family-based cognitive behavioural therapy programme for children ages 6 to 13 years with anxiety disorders, and their parents.

Built Environment

The built environment is sometimes defined as the human-made space in which people live, work, and undertake leisure activities on a day-to-day basis.

Bulletin Board

A bulletin board is a form of online community used by people with autism and others to talk to one another.

Bumetanide

Bumetanide is a diuretic drug sold under a variety of brand names inc. Bumex or Burinex.

Buspirone

Buspirone is an anxiolytic drug sold under a variety of brand names including BuSpar and Dividose.
