STSSE is an acronym for the Simultaneous Training and Social Skills Enhancement programme, a social skills group programme designed to enhance the social functioning of children on the autism spectrum.
An STSSE course, which is simultaneously carried out for children with ASD and their parents, comprises 10 consecutive sessions and can be completed within six months. Parental sessions focus on helping parents gain an understanding of their child’s social skills, including the areas in which they may be lacking, and on assisting their child in adapting to both the home and school environment.
The STSSE was developed by Okuno and others at Osaka University, Japan.
