Riding the Rapids: Living with Autism or Disability

Riding the Rapids is a parent training programme for parents of pre- and primary-school aged children with autism and intellectual or complex disabilities.

It comprises ten, weekly, two-hour sessions. An informal, voluntary follow-up session is held three months later. Two facilitators deliver the programme with the lead facilitator required to be a clinical psychologist.

The aim of the programme is to enable parent and carers to understand, and have the skills and confidence to manage, their child’s behaviour in the context of additional needs.
